Afrodesiac and the Mystery of the Sleeping Blog

Oh man, it's been a little bit since I've posted, hasn't it?
Let's do a quick recap of recent jobs/projects etc and some various news-tidbits..
I recently did some fan art/appreciation for Jim Rugg's awesome faux-blaxploitation character, Afrodesiac. (ostensibly for consideration in this contest, but more or less “just for fun.” I came up with a villain for him to fight, and I paid homage to the long line of bearded super-characters from the 70s with EL TORO LOCO, who seems to be controlling Afrodesiac with his Crazybull Helmet! He's going to regret messing with our favorite pimp! My other bit of artistic license was to imagine that this was a period in the run of Afrodesiac comics where his current favorite hooker with a heart of gold, BABY CAKES, had been promoted to second billing on the title, as with Robin or The Falcon. I didn't have space to draw her on the cover, but imagine that she's got a serious apple-bottom.
And here’s some menu headers I made for the new menus I designed at one of my day jobs.
OH LOOK, I found a bunch of jpgs of old ass art from my college years that I don’t think most people have seen. I studied printmaking at LSU and that’s where I learned about the magic of mechanical reproduction being more than just a means to reproduce original art. That photoset contains some of my struggles with intaglio (etching) and lithography (which I liked the results but I hated actually doing), as well as a couple woodcuts (which I love but don’t make the time to do) and my first few silkscreens EVER!
and lastly, ART SHOW NEWS! 1st up, I helped curate and hang this art show featuring all cartoonists drawings, paintings and some comic pages. Here’s some pics from the show, taken by my pal Jason Fisher.
2nd order of art show bizniss is that I’m in an art show that’s up in the mayor’s office here in PDX! I think it’ll be hanging till sometime in June, so you have a bit of a chance to check out the show.

I’ll also be at Stumptown comics fest later this month with the pony club and TCAF in Toronto debuting a new super secret (it’s intitals are s, g, and 12!) project! But more on that later…
